THE PARTY

On the last sunny Saturday in September one of my grandsons was married to his lovely girlfriend …not only at the local Registry Office but also at a ceremony in my daughter’s garden. It was a joyful occasion and we laughed a lot especially when the dog tried to join in with the dance the young couple had learnt especially for the occasion! I wrote them a Blessing but I must try to write a poem as well…

Here is a poem I wrote several years ago now when I had a wonderful party for a special birthday.

The Party

They arrived before I expected them
but the sun was shining and the
Pimms was ready to be served
and the joy began to flow
as each greeting was enjoyed.

How I had longed to see so
many of them who otherwise
would only have met at my
funeral. No, no, I wanted
to talk and laugh with them,

Families and friends are in
our hopes and fears and we
need to support, love and accept
each other for who we are and
what we want to be.

Our identities are bound up in
one another and we are intertwined.
We must hold on to one another
in love and spread that love
abroad to those around.

The world needs love …
